A teapot or gaiwan is the centerpiece of any Gongfu tea session, designed for small-volume, multiple-infusion brewing that extracts the full flavor and aroma from quality loose-leaf tea.

Gongfu teapot. Small and built for heat retention, Gongfu teapots come in clay, porcelain, or glass. Yixing clay is the most prized for its ability to subtly enhance oolongs and puerh over many sessions.

Gaiwan. A lidded bowl with saucer, the gaiwan works well with every tea type and gives you direct control over the pour. For beginners it is often the better starting point before committing to a specific clay teapot.
